Hood Companies’ roots stretch back to 1978 with the acquisition of a small packaging company from the Masonite Corporation. This was the first of many acquisitions.

Since that time, Hood followed a similar but challenging pattern: acquire a company with great potential, staff it with people with a thirst to build their own futures, then let them do it. It wasn’t the easiest – or the most popular – way to build a business, but it worked.

Today, Hood Companies is the result of that business philosophy. What began with a small packaging company now included several companies, among them:

• Hood Packaging Corporation – a large multiwall bag manufacturer with seventeen operational sites in the United States and Canada.


• Atlas Roofing – a major roofing and foam insulation manufacturer with eighteen manufacturing facilities throughout the United States.


• Hood Industries Inc. – a blend of wood manufacturing and distribution concerns that include two plywood and three lumber manufacturing plants, and eighteen specialty wood product distribution operations, located in thirteen states serving the northeast, southeast and southwest United States.

All of these concerns continue to grow and profit based largely on a few core values: trust, integrity, and, above all, accountability. These values resonate throughout Hood Companies by a simple but powerful challenge – do what you say you’re going to do and when you say you’re going to do it.
